Researcher with over 20 years experience in Scottish genealogical research
I have worked in and traveled throughout Scotland fornearly 60 years. As a result, I have a close and intimate knowledge of thelocal and national geography, history, place names and people of Scotland.
I undertake all forms of Scottish family research including ancestry, livingrelatives and sighting and copying documents.
I can widen your basic family history knowledge by using the records whichare easily accessible and those which are are less well known.
"AND SOME STAYED AT HOME - COME FORWARD TO GO BACK."Remember that not all members of a family left Scotland. The present canbe used to find the past by tracing the lines of those who remained in Scotland, down to the present day. This can be extremely rewarding - in human terms andas a means of finding information about early generations, which often cannotbe obtained from the records.
PROBLEM SOLVING SERVICE
I specialise in solving particularly difficult research problems. I have ready accessto the very wide range of records available in Edinburgh and I use them to try tofind ways around difficult problems. Often a problem can be overcome by movingfrom the main research line, taking a different route, and coming back to theoriginal line.

My specialty is solving your research problems. Initial research begins at the Family History Library, which has a wide array of records from around the world that can be used to trace your family, but I am also adept at internet searches and utilizing many other record sources. Your research package will include a report in letter format, a detailed list of all records searched and the results of the search, copies of all documents, and family group records and pedigree charts when desired. I can trace descendancy as records allow or perform specific searches at your request. We have traced the ancestry of more than seven thousand families from all walks of life. Each case is supervised by one of our team of experienced professionals, and we maintain the highest standards of proof to make sure that your family has been traced accurately.
In recent years, genealogy has been energised by the release of many records online, and a number of new organisations have sprung up offering to search these readily available resources.
The online sources still represent only a fraction of the material available to the experienced genealogist. Local archives hold a wealth of original records, most of which require specific expertise to interpret.
We have access to the full range of records in the UK and Ireland, from medieval times to the present, and we also undertake research in the countries to which ancestors emigrated: North America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Dorset: most original records are held in the Dorset History Centre in Dorchester; this now houses the local studies collection as well as the Dorset archives collection. Most of the wills proved within the county are also in the Dorset Record Office and currently the only index to these is on cards in the Dorset History Centre; some other wills are in the Diocesan Record Office in Wiltshire; those wills for Dorset people proved in the PCC are held in the PRO in London. Many other local records can only be accessed by visiting the Dorset History Centre. These include:overseers papers; estate papers; property deeds; court records. These include many newspaper archives, as well as collections of particular interest to the area.
Somerset: most original records for Somerset are held in the Somerset County Record Office in Taunton. They are similar in type to those described above for Dorset. There is a further collection of material in the Somerset Studies Library, which houses newspaper archives and other collections of particular interest in the area.
Wiltshire: The new Wiltshire and History Centre, in Chippenham, is where mostof the original records are kept for the county of Wiltshire. It is also the Diocesan Record Office, so it is home to a large collection of original wills proved within the Salisbury Diocese.

He was Research Director of the supporting company of the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies, and now runs his own successful genealogical practice in London. He traces family trees all over the world. Research tends to fall into two broad categories – tracing family trees back from scratch, or undertaking research to solve problems for people who have already started, but have got stuck. Qualified & experienced Archivist, palaeographer and historical researcher in the East Midlands of England - Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland. Specialist in tracing origins of early New England settlers in this region, which includes the homes of several Pilgrim Father Families around Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. New discoveries and corrections of published genealogies are still being made.
Training and consultancy in research skills (palaeography, diplomatic, latin, etc.). A lot more happened in your ancestors' lives than just baptism, marriage and burial. I can help you to tease out the other aspects of their experience, particularly if they lived in Pilgrim Father or "Tales of Gotham" Country.
A wealth of untapped evidence survives from Mediaeval and Early Modern England, including wills and inventories, manorial and bawdy court records, deeds and terriers; you would benefit from the help of a professional in deciphering and interpreting them. The results could be surprising; do you just want a genealogy or would you prefer ancestral biography?
Irish Townland Maps,
For those involved with Irish genealogy this is the most important map collection ever published. Surveyed between 1829 and 1843, the maps are packed with detail and are of superb quality and craftsmanship. They are both an excellent gift for anyone with an interest in Ireland and a wonderful source of information for researchers.
The maps are the First Edition 6 inch scale Ordnance Survey maps of Ireland, surveyed between 1829 and 1843 - also known as the "Townland maps". Those involved in Irish genealogy regard them as the most important maps ever produced as they were the first maps to accurately show the boundaries and names of all the Townlands, Parishes and Baronies in Ireland.
As well as genealogists, the maps are of great interest to anyone of Irish descent or who have a connection with Ireland, as they invoke memories of places once visited and show how an area has changed over time.

(Useful if this is where your family took root.)• London archive research – specialist research at The National Archives that would benefit from our charge-free travel. Historical & Genealogical Research & Consulting for Philadelphia Families, Businesses,& Institutions
Philadelphia Genealogical & Historical Research,
I offer genealogical and historical research in Philadelphia area repositories and search records on individuals, families, businesses, institutions, and organizations. I prepare genealogical and biographical sketches of your family members, company officers, institutional directors, or organizational officials. I also consult with you on your genealogical research for your Philadelphia ancestors and make myself available to photograph their tombstones, houses, or other structures where they might have lived, worked, or worshiped. I specialize in studies that combine Kensington and Fishtown history and genealogy in order to place those families, businesses, institutions, and organizations, within a local historical context, bringing them to life more fully then a generalist genealogist, or historian, can possibly do. Although, my specialty is in these Philadelphia neighborhoods, I am also quite capable of providing these same services for subjects in the whole of the Philadelphia Metropolitan area. For examples of my work contact me and I will send a narrative of a family history, biography, or business history, that I published, or was contracted for.
I have an in-depth understanding of Philadelphia’s communities through many years of research and I am able to provide the historical context for your history that will make your unique story come alive. If you would rather write your own family, business, or institutional history, I could still be of value to you by placing your family, business, institution, or organization in context with an introductory historical chapter on Fishtown, or Kensington history. I can also fill in the already written reports that you have researched to enlarge and complete them. I am also available for consulting on those “brick walls” that you may have encountered along the way and if your project falls into my specialty area, it would be quite possible that I could break them down.
If you need general historical research work that might be useful for archaeology, building, engineering, environment studies, the insurance business, urban planning, law, or real estate, I would be especially helpful with these historical neighborhoods of Fishtown and Kensington. I could also help those oral and cultural historians and other academic historians, who do not often venture north of Vine street and who might be interested in publishing work on these communities.
My services are also offered to local and citywide non-profit agencies as well, that might be interested in the modern urban studies of Fishtown and Kensington in order to plan for their programming, or provide historical perspectives for grant writers when seeking funding.
Providing searches within Manitoba and Canada. Specializing in Canadian and Great Britain searches.
Having 15 years experience, I will be prompt and do my best to get results. Please view my website for more information.
* Prompt attention and quick results to your project.* Free scanning and emailing of copies.* One name look ups or full package projects at your request.* I assure you of discretion, privacy and confidentiality.* When your project is complete all documents, letters, photos and etc, will be given to you or destroyed, as per your request.
Starting Your Search...
Information that I will require.
To begin any family search, I will need to have a basis of information. Anything that you can tell me, dates, names and places will aid me in finding your family roots. Below are a list of questions that I will need you to have filled out to the best of your abilities.* Who/what is the name of the person/surname that you want me to research?* When were they born?* Where were they born?* When did they immigrate?
Country of origin?
If you do not have much to go on, I will need you to provide me with as much as you have, basically how far back can you go yourself? Even giving me your Great Grandfathers name and where he was born may be enough to go back as far as I can. Ask family members, clergy, anyone you can think of that can give you enough information for me to work with. Find out if they were in the Military or in any organizations. Anything can be a lead.

Pennsylvania:Scots - Irish familiesPennsylvania German families
Specific location specialities:Southwest Pa - specifically Morris Twp., Washington and Greene Counties including early settlers from New Jersey into western Pennsylvania prior to 1800. I've traced many of these early families as they migrated into the area of Virginia that later became parts of West Virginia and into Ohio and further west. I have a large database of these families.
Scot-Irish Virginia families - specifically those who migrated into Orange, Augusta, Monroe, Greenbrier, Botetourt counties. Many of these hardy Virginia Scots-Irish families eventualy left Virginia and migrated into Kentucky and Tennessee or Kentucky and Ohio.
EuropeThe FHL houses an extensive collection of old German Empire records, as well as records of Switzerland, France, Austria and Scandinavia. Parish registers are available as early as the 1500's in some areas (specifically Baden and Württemberg) but at least one to two hundred years later in other areas. Wars and other catastrophes caused destruction of some registers (as might be expected), thus availability varies greatly from place to place.
Civil registration was instituted much later. The French introduced civil registration in 1798 in those areas of Germany annexed by Napoleon Bonaparte. Baden began civil registration in 1810, and records from Prussia are available beginning 1 October 1874. On 1 January 1876, civil registration was officially mandated in all areas of the German Empire.
If an exact place of origin is unknown, research will need to begin with U.S. sources. Emigration lists for Hamburg, Germany are available from 1850-1934. Passenger lists for most major American ports also are available through the mid-Twentieth Century, and generally are indexed. In addition, naturalization, military, census, church, vital, and other records can be used to establish European origins.
There are similar types of records for Switzerland and portions of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire (now part of the modern-day countries of Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Italy and Yugoslavia). Swiss records are more plentiful at the FHL than those from other Eastern European countries, but always inquire about specific areas.
The following areas of the old German Empire have been highlighted below, as they have the most complete records at the FHL. Other areas of Germany, Poland, Switzerland and Austria may also be available, so please inquire in all cases.

Bristol and Somerset England Family History
Short and long term projects undertaken - One generation or manyOr just tying up those loose ends in your family treeFree consultation and advice - within reason!
Whether you're just starting out tracing your family history, or you're an experienced researcher with a problem that needs solving but can't get to the records yourself, then maybe I can help.
I have over 20 years' experience in Genealogical work, beginning with my own family history, then helping friends at home and overseas. Since January 1999 I have served over 240 clients from various parts of the world to further their family research. I am a professional scientist, and employ a careful and logical approach to my work - the only way with this kind of meticulous detective work.
I operate from a Somerset village near Bristol in the South West of England, with easy access to archives for both areas. If you have ancestors from this part of England I can probably help you to trace them. I work on ancestry projects in Somerset and Bristol, and am not normally prepared to work farther afield.
I aim to provide a friendly and interactive service, working with you through e-mail. Family research usually throws up plenty of surprises and contradictions which usually upset the best laid plans, so it's important that both parties keep in touch at every stage. Apart from being more fun for everyone, it actually produces better, quicker and more focussed results.
If you are just beginning or need help because you have run into a dead end, let our professional genealogical researchers make this pursuit of discovering your heritage a reality. The combination of proven research techniques and years of research combine together to provide you with a complete documented genealogical report of your family.
Access to millions of records make this possible as well as professional genealogists who are experts from all over the globe. Whether it is a simple look-up or a full research project, we are prepared to complete your request with all the data and tools available today.
Your compiled family’s genealogy, reports and documents, will be placed in an attractive folder or binder together with a Gedcom file in electronic format.

Understand where you've come from!
I am a professional researcher based in Sydney, Australia, with many years of experience in New South Wales research with full access to the major repositories such as State Records NSW and the NSW Department of Lands. My knowledge and experience in locating and accessing records is a major advantage in the systematic and efficient research that I provide.
I undertake all types of research, from the search and retrieval of specific documents such as immigration passenger lists, convict records and probate files to compilations of substantial family trees and histories. I can help you trace a line of your family tree back to your convict or immigrant ancestor, build the whole tree for you, or help you when you are stuck.
I believe that a knowledge of your family's past is essential to an understanding of who you are. Most Australian families have originally come from somewhere else, and this history has shaped what they did and why. Secrets about family origins, such as convict ancestors, or assisted immigrants from dubious locations, can and should be uncovered.
30 years experience. Born and bred in Yorkshire and now live in Skipton, ideally placed for all Yorkshire research.
What we can do
Any of the following categories we can do as a single or combined assignment:
Family History Research This includes your family tree through whichever and as many lines as you would like. We can also obtain (and sometimes this is a necessary part of research) marriage, birth and death certificates of any of your family. Presentation could be simple printed pages of your family details or an attractively bound booklet with family photographs included. Alternatively a CD can be sent to you.
Family Crest/Coat of Arms A photo image is obtained with details of the history of your name and its origins if it's available. Names were often taken from the kind of work someone did; baker, smith, clerk etc. or sometimes from where they live; Richmond, Pickersgill, Dacre, but there are some surprises….
Photographs These include graveyards, gravestones, your village church, a house or street where you or your ancestors were born, a school or cinema that you have fond memories of: Any of these can be a 'then and now' series of photographs.
